ANNIE NORTHFIELD

I am a naturalist particularly interested in UK and Mediterranean entomology and ecology.

In 2018 I started travelling to look for wildlife,  generally looking for reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Over time, these trips began to focus more on entomology, often searching for species which can be encountered in peri-urban habitats such as road verges and waste ground. As a result, I became especially interested in the ecology and diversity of European shieldbugs. I began recording my observations in a field journal, which has since become an indispensable learning tool. My goal from this point has been to observe and understand as much as possible about the environments I visit and their inhabitants.

My largest personal project is attempting to find and illustrate all of Europe’s ~300 shieldbugs (superfamily Pentatomoidea), a highly ambitious and probably lifelong endeavour.

I upload many of my observations to iNaturalist.
