ABOUT THIS WEBSITE
This site is a small showcase of various entomology field trips, as well as sketchbook pages and illustrations.
I am passionate about the ecology and environments of Europe and the Mediterranean, and aim to highlight some of the incredible diversity found in this region. While I am particularly interested in shieldbugs, I try to observe and document as much wildlife as possible everywhere I visit.
WHY VENTOCORIS?
The name and logo of this site feature my favourite shieldbug Ventocoris rusticus (Pentatomidae: Podopinae), a fascinating species with a unique appearance which feeds only on Nigella plants. In French, it is sometimes called "Tourteau fromager" in reference to a cake of the same name from the Poitou-Charentes region, which bears a remarkable resemblance to this bug in shape and colour.
