ABOUT THIS WEBSITE

This site is a small showcase of various entomology field trips, as well as some of my sketchbook pages and illustrations.

I am particularly interested in invertebrate and insect diversity and ecology, as well as scientific and field illustration, and prehistory (human, landscape and faunal), caves and cave fauna, mammals...

WHY VENTOCORIS?

The name and logo of this site feature my favourite shieldbug Ventocoris rusticus (Pentatomidae: Podopinae), a fascinating species with a unique appearance which feeds only on Nigella plants. In French, it is sometimes called "Tourteau fromager" in reference to a cake of the same name from the Poitou-Charentes region, which bears a remarkable resemblance to this bug in shape and colour.
